*bar -> random chitchat thread <- bar*
« Reply #465 on: September 16, 2015, 12:39PM »

Well I definitely have a bad head gasket. I went out to my car just now and my little drips are a 12" puddle... and it's only been parked there four hours. Must be a mostly external leak, which is good, but some internal, which is the reason the engine gives me trouble now and then. I hope it holds out through the weekend.

 :shocked

Head gaskets are never a fun job. But with the prices stations charge these days there really isn't a choice other than doing it your self.

There's just so much shit in the way. From what I gather, the hardest part is starting, getting the upper plenum off. Just priced parts, about $100-$150 Need to do the timing belt and water pump at the same times as its getting close to due. Add in another $100-150. But where do you stop? Doesn't make sense to do one head and not the other. While I have the head off its the perfect time to do the one cat that's nearing the end of its life. That's $200-400...  all money I don't have. But worse than that is the time, when am I going to do it? For an hour before it gets dark every day after work? Hate having to work like that. It seems I always have car trouble in September/October without fail.

Bring it to work and tell them you're fixing the shop cart.  :nopuede

So I gots me another Burro.

You have to love competition and capitalism.  New models are coming in for 2016, the dealer  few miles away from them gave me a better offer and they decided to give me a better one to counter.  At the end I got more than I was hoping for :D

Thanks to all who advised me to negotiate and shop around.  8)

Nice ride.
I guess you own stock in a oil company. If not, buy some right away. Your might as well get back some of the money you'll be giving them for gas.  :D

Thanks señor radioman ... I will keep that in mind.  :yourock

I am actually spending the same amount of $$$ in gas that I was spending with the twin turbo, premium gas only BMW.  Now it is all regular gas.  Today I picked up my muchachos from school, I hit the curb by accident ... No big deal, the truck just climbed over it.  Had it been my BMW that would had been some serious scraping on the low profile rims it had ... Size matters after all :D

We kept the old Burro (minivan) for those treacherous trips to Obscat ... 230k miles and still going :D
