The way this show is going, it warrants its own thread.   8)   :tv

No spoilers in case you haven't seen it, but ...  last night's episode with the "practical jokes"... had me laughing out loud.

And the premise with Pria (Charlize Theron) was cool too...

Good to see a Star Trek getting back to having beautiful women, "interacting" with the Captain again.   :nana   It would make Captain Kirk proud.

Sure beats having a lesbian Captain and 1st Officer.  :wink

I'm not up to the latest episode, but I found it funny that they took the prime directive from Star Trek Next Generation and just threw it right out the window.

Star Trek is not just about ships and aliens.  It is a drama in space.  The Orville is a comedy.  It is like comparing spaceballs to start wars and calling the two the same

It is an aquire taste, but it is growing on me.  Once I forgave a few start trek sins, I am now starting to like it.  The last episode got to me.  Specially the ending.

It is still entertaining and funny, and that is all that matters.

For those reasons it works.

If you start seeing it for its content and sci fi merits, it  becomes a struggle.  I decided to look at it as a comedy in space.  And I appreciate the wrongs it tries to Right.  Like the Klingons being white as opposed to black.  The Gay aliens.  The stronger than man little woman.  The cheating wife being left alone at home while the husband pursues a career and yet manages to do right by his man.  The issues of war and how innocent victims suffer.  ... And that folks should not take themselves so seriously.

The last episode was interesting in the story line.  A good effort to inject drama into the series.

Oh my

The last episode.  I even felt sorry for Seth.  I mean it was bad.  Not funny, full of issues in the story line, bad acting and for god's sake, how about some real alien planets with Alien looking beings.  Why do they all have to be homosapiens and have cars and buildings like ours.  Oh how about not overacting and being so surprised why a culture has this set of believes contrary to our culture.  To be honest if the Orville would land in the Middle East the people they meet would look more aliens than what they have encountered in recent episodes.  The Episode of the Krill ship and their custom was spot on.  I really enjoyed that one.  But this latest one was tough to digest and forgive its sins.  Can they mention they are using a universal translator.  Speaking English all the time and even using figure of speech, slangs and whatnot, really?!

If this is meant to be funny and entertaining he needs to stay with that formula.  But if he wants to go where every other Star Trek episode has gone, well he needs better writers and play to the strength or lack thereof of his actors.
