A Guapo heading to Miami Open Match
« on: January 09, 2018, 01:48PM »
Shooting my first match of 2018 this weekend in Miami.  I'll try my best not to overly embarrass the Team Guapo name.  Hopefully I'll get some pix/video to post afterwards.

The dates were perfect as my daughter was flying back for Spring semester... so I figured I'd tag along and we'd squeeze in a match.   :D

Stage descriptions are all pretty straight forward.

... and I'm schlepping a back-up for each of us.  Ugh.

Bienvenidos a Miami! Good luck and enjoy the food down there. Lots of good eating places.

Fun day today at the match.  The weather was great, but Evil was very strong... a long tiring day of 12 stages.   I was way off most of the day, more Mikes and No Shoots than I care to admit.  I started to get my groove towards the end, but too little too late.

I posted a couple of clips on Facebook.  I'll post them here when I get back home.

Was there a little bot of "oopsie" on how soon that first shot went off on the second stage shown?

Other than going deaf, the truck stage is great!  All the brass is right there for the RO's to keep!

I had ton's of Oopsie's throughout the day... but not there.  I got an A & C on the swinger (and a mike).  I'm guessing my first shot was the A.

First shot:

Some of my more memorable Oopsie's include:
1) Despite having the mag changes and shots for the first stage on the video memorized, I decided to call an audible while shooting towards the end of the stage.  I took a stupid extra shot which sent me to slide lock and threw me off on the last two targets.

2) Not depressing the mag release long enough (it's in the video a couple of times)... mag would start to drop, then get caught before if fell free.  During the match, I didn't realize what was happening and I'd stop to pull it free.

3) Let's not even discuss 12 Mikes and 6 No Shoots.   :cascrying  I suspect *some* of it may be factory ammo I shot for the first time at the match was impacting lower than I was expecting.  I know that on at least two of the no-shoots I was stopped and aiming and I saw the hole a couple of inches lower than expected (hitting the no-shoot).  Either the ammo, or I was flinching like a mad-man.

Sorry I thought the last stage was in the back of some truck, maybe it was a trailer of sorts?

It's the audio lag when I watched it... seemed like the gun went off when you were still bringing it up.

It was in the truck. And it was loud. And now I can’t hear. (“What?!?”)
